In my latest podcast episode, I had the pleasure of speaking with Nathan Wray, a passionate Youth Mental Health Speaker and Substance Use Prevention Coordinator. Nathan’s insights into the power of collective efficacy in reducing youth substance use were both inspiring and practical.

Nathan shared that addressing youth substance use isn't just about individual efforts; it’s about coming together as a community. When we work collaboratively—educators, families, and community members—we create an environment where students feel supported and understood, which has a profound impact on their social and emotional well-being.

One of the key takeaways from our conversation was the importance of fostering a sense of belonging among students. Nathan emphasized that when students feel connected to their peers and the adults in their lives, they are less likely to engage in risky behaviors. This sense of belonging is something we can all help build, whether we’re in the classroom, at home, or in the community.

As we wrapped up our discussion, I couldn’t help but reflect on how essential it is for us as educators and leaders to prioritize collaboration. We can’t do this work alone, and the more we lean into our collective strengths, the more impact we can have on the lives of our students.

If you want to dive deeper into this topic, I encourage you to check out the full episode. It’s a conversation that really underscores the importance of working together for the betterment of our youth.
